Support our Nation's Heroes Throughout Recovery
Service members who have made incredible sacrifices deserve security and comfort after their tour. Unfortunately, government programs alone are insufficient to ensure stability. Still, everyday Americans can make a difference for our cherished heroes by volunteering at a notable Veteran charity like Luke’s Wings. Their contributions, whether through time or financial support, encourage Veterans and their families during their transition back to civilian life.
A nonprofit organization that reunites families of wounded, injured, or ill service members, Luke’s Wings eases travel stress by providing emergency travel planning services and airline tickets. As of 2022, Luke’s Wings has provided over 14,000 commercial airline tickets for heroes and families across the country. Through the hard work of our team, we give back by supporting military families when they need it most. To learn more about Luke’s Wings’ programs, call (800) 609-9920 today!
Below, we discuss ways you can make an impact with Veteran charities:
Wounded Warrior Project
The Wounded Warrior Project assists service members injured during their tour through rehabilitation and counseling to help them adjust to their post-service lives. Fundraisers for this organization are hosted nationwide at sporting events, 5ks, and galas. You can participate in numerous fundraisers or host one yourself to support their mission and directly support injured Veterans.
Homes for Our Troops
Veterans are at greater risk of becoming homeless than the general population. Therefore, volunteering with Homes for Our Troops or similar housing programs can have a profound impact. By building and donating homes to Veterans, they provide these heroes with the stability and support they need. Homes for Our Troops also offers financial and homeownership assistance for up to three years to ensure long-term success.
Homes for Our Troops hosts build events, which offer a hands-on opportunity to contribute to a service member’s future home. Alternatively, Homes for Our Troops also holds an auction for donated cars, in which all funds support their initiative.
Operation Gratitude
Given the conditions they operate under, service members are frequently exposed to unique mental health challenges. However, Operation Gratitude—a nonprofit organization—donates care packages and letters with a personal touch to lift the spirits of service members.
Operation Gratitude has volunteer opportunities open to all ages, such as crafting homemade scarves or hats or hand-writing letters of thanks. In-person opportunities, such as care package assembly, are also available.
Luke’s Wings
The government only provides limited travel services for Veterans. Therefore, the financial and logistical challenges of travel often leave injured service members and their families separated for extended periods. Yet Luke’s Wings seeks to ameliorate this dilemma by providing emergency travel planning services and airline tickets, reuniting service members in treatment with their loved ones.
Luke’s Wings also provides numerous volunteer opportunities, including fundraising, communications and logistics, and event support (stay updated with the latest opportunities by visiting us online). Additionally, we accept more than financial contributions, and as a Delta SkyWish Partner, supporters can donate Delta SkyMiles directly to military families in need.
