In May of 2016, Staff Sergeant Jared G. was on a Joint Forces training mission when he was seriously injured trying to fix a jammed round in his vehicle’s main gun. What he thought was just a casing turned out to be a live round that detonated in his face. He was immediately sent to Landstuhl, Germany, where he underwent stabilizing surgery and subsequently medevacked to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

Jared, his wife, and their three children uprooted their lives from Georgia to Maryland so that he could seek continuous care for his injuries. In July of 2018, Luke’s Wings had the honor or providing flights for this family of five to Atlanta, where they were reunited with both sides of their family for the first time since his injury. “[It was] the first time my kids met some of their cousins on this side, due to my injury,” said Jared. “My heart is full and it is because of the flights provided by Luke’s Wings.”
