U.S. Army Sergeant First Class Alvaro B. has a loving wife and two beautiful children. Unfortunately, due to injuries he sustained in early 2017, the family was geographically separated so that the children could maintain normalcy and remain in their daily activities while their dad received the treatment he needed. Alvaro’s wife, Tammy, flew back and forth between Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and their home in order to manage both households. In early June of 2017, Alvaro began the process of being fitted for a prosthetic – an important milestone in the wounded warrior’s recovery process. We provided a flight for Tammy to retrieve the children and for all three of them to return to the Washington, D.C. area so that they could see their hero walk for the first time and spend the summer together as a family. It is our honor to keep families like this one united during challenging times and moments of celebration.
