The Lum family has a rich military history. U.S. Marine Corps Staff Sergeant James L. was enlisted in the Marine Corps from 1948 to 1958. He served in the Korean War before returning stateside to become a Drill Instructor. His son, U.S. Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant Michael L. (Ret.) followed in his father’s footsteps – proudly serving in our military during wartime. Michael retired from the Marine Corps after serving seven combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. With James residing in Hawaii and Michael in Florida, costly travel separated them for over seven years. However, when doctors placed James in Hospice Care with less than a month to live, he turned to Luke’s Wings to reunite him with his son. It was an honor to reunite these two war heroes separated by distance for far too long. As a final salute to James and his honorable service to our country, Luke’s Wings flew Michael and his wife to be bedside with his father. We know this trip brought comfort and healing for both father and son while alleviating financial stress for the family.
