Tom Abernethy has been with Accenture for fourteen years, and is a Managing Director within its National Security practice where he is responsible for planning, designing, implementing, and leading complex programs supporting Defense and Intelligence Agencies.

Prior to joining Accenture, Tom served in the Navy.  During his 29-year career, Tom commanded the destroyer USS PAUL F. FOSTER (DD-964), DESTROYER SQUADRON TWENTY-TWO, and the Cruise Missile Support Activity in Norfolk, Va.  He also served as an analyst in the Assessment Division (OPNAV N81), an Associate Professor in the Department of Systems Engineering at the U.S. Military Academy, the Director of Department Head Training at Surface Warfare Officers School Command, and as the Executive Assistant to the Deputy Chief of Operations (Integration of Capabilities and Resources) (N8).

Tom is the President of the Washington, D.C. chapter of the National Naval Officers Association.  The National Naval Officers Association’s mission is to actively support the Sea Services in the development of a diverse and inclusive officer corps.  He is a United States Naval Academy Athletic and Scholarship Programs Trustee.   He is also on the Board of Directors of the National Capital Council of the Navy League.

Tom is a United States Naval Academy graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.  He also has a Master of Science degree in Operations Analysis from the Naval Postgraduate School.  He is a member of the Military Operations Research Society and the Surface Navy Association.

Tom and his wife, Angela, have two daughters, Katrina and Alana, three sons, Eric, Thomas and Daunte, and five grandchildren, Jerod, Londyn, Cameron, Edyn and Ava.  Eric is an Army veteran.  Daunte is a Master Sergeant in the Air Force and Alana is a Naval Academy graduate currently serving as a Lieutenant Commander in the U. S. Navy.
