ADAMS MORGAN– With the thunderous roar of Navy fighter jets in the background, a fashionable crowd gathered inside Adams Morgan’s historic L’Aiglon Mansion on Friday night for Luke’s Wings‘ third annual runway show fundraiser.
An organization dedicated to the support of service members who have been wounded in battle, Luke’s Wings purchases travel agency services and travel tickets for the family members of injured soldiers, in order to encourage and motivate the service member’s recovery by ensuring that he/she is surrounded by loved ones while hospitalized.
Friday night’s fashion fundraiser saw 16 models, including four active duty service members, walk a makeshift aircraft carrier runway featuring the latest fashions from designer and artist Don Patron and local luxury shops Saks Fifth Avenue of Tysons Galleria, Aram Boutique, and Ella-Rue.
The models included: Jeff Jordan, David Whittenburg, Mat Hebert, Gabe Oran,Paul Raphel, Tino Angelov, Gabe Santiago (Navy), Courtney Stecker (Army),Lauren Erisman, Melody Cheng, Lindsay Kin, Laura Reading, Rachel DeMita,Nadia Christian, Kristen Murdock (Navy) and Cassie Devolites (Air Force).
Georgetown’s Peacock Cafe and Jamestown Entertainment served as the evening’s food and beverage sponsors, respectively, with Ambhar Tequila hosting a special tequila tasting station inside the venue’s VIP lounge.
News Channel 8’s Natasha Barrett, host of the popular Let’s Talk Live morning show, began the event by welcoming guests and introducing Sick Feed vocalistSamantha Dredge, who performed a heartfelt version of the National Anthem.
At the conclusion of the runway presentation, host committee members Kristen Murdock and Fletcher Gill thanked everyone for their support and briefly discussed how Luke’s Wings tries to honor and assist the country’s veterans.
All told, the night raised approximately $15,000 from more than 150 individuals in support of the non-profit’s mission.
Definitely the smoothest flight of the year so far!
